Albert & Lucie

Where every thread adds to a broader story

The story behind Albert & Lucie

Following personal events, I found myself looking at abundant family pictures and lots of memories came back.

My Dad, a skilled worker in wood and iron, in his workshop.

My mother, a talented lacemaker post-retirement.

My grandmother, magic at her fingertips, practicing her embroidery and often asking my cousin to draw some design for her. I still see her skillfully working on her beautiful tablecloth.

My great grandparents, Albert and Lucie, in the lace industry, also skilled in embroidery, leaving behind patterns and lace that still circle and delight our family.

My family is a family of artists. Not the ones you will find in galleries, but the ones who had regular jobs yet were true artists on their own. They created art using texture, colors and shapes. Most importantly they had passion in creating and sharing it with others.

Now here I am, having worked for many years with paper, paper collage, paper mâché, sculptures in paper, folded paper.

Paper is humble and versatile. A creative eye can transform it into something surprising and wonderful.

And then, it all came together.

Photos, pictures, postcards are memories you are taking for yourself or sending to somebody.

What is more natural that including texture to a picture like this?

I will use these paper supports and add thread, embroidery stiches, use some kind of lace patterns, beads, make creations that will bring emotions to people.

I am Catherine Bastien.

Welcome to my site, Albert & Lucie, rooted in the past, open to the future.
